Oseh Shalom is a call for peace. This original setting of “Oseh Shalom” is a joint quest to stop fighting and to share our Earth peacefully. As conflicts around have been going on continuously throughout the world for thousands of years, the ability to create an eternal state of peace seems nearly impossible. Any “current” situation could be solved and/or easily mediated, should both parties meet with a mutual goal of resolution; peace, however, is far more complicated, as those who have felt “wronged” carry the burden passed on from previous generations. With so many people on both sides of a conflict carrying-on past legacy, a current resolution usually lacks the comfort of a definitive and absolute resolution.

This made-up language is created to and sung as a means to understand the challenges that are faced with coming to another country.   While the words may seem unintelligible, and somewhat comical at first glance, they present a deeper meaning about our global community and how we are all united as one.

Christy Altomare (star of Broadway's Anastasia): I wrote a melody to the sonnet shall I compare thee for a musical version of Pericles that I was adapting ... I handed it to my dear friend Adam Paltrowitz to arrange for a choir.... last Thursday I Skyped in while his incredible class performed the finished arrangement ... Adam is not only an incredible arranger / song writer - but he is also an incredible teacher who has encouraged and helped shape the lives of so many of his students for the better... thank you Adam and students for this gift ... hearing my melody come to life in this way is such an honor!

This popular poem is beautifully and carefully set to create a powerful image.  The voice-leading and repetition is perfect for a developing choir but the depth of the piece will work with a refined high school, college, or community ensemble as well.
