Dreidel Choir Arrangement
This SATB/Unaccompanied arrangement is a lot of fun to sing and to watch. There are very few happy, uptempo songs for Hanukkah. This Dreidel Choir Arrangement is a winner. It is easy to learn and adds humor and diversity to any holiday program and will be a real crowd pleaser! This piece can also be sung when caroling by eliminating the last section, or it can be attached to the end of the famous “Carol of the Bells” as seen in the linked video below.
The story:
I improvised this arrangement about 10 years ago; my choir and I were discussing the lack of “festive” Hanukkah pieces. “Dreidel”, a child’s Hanukkah song, seemed like the perfect “spin” for an audience surprise. We improvised the bass and tenor part to sound like a fun “bounce”. We then created a harmony and counter melody with the altos. Next, we improvised some creative staging and a “serious” ending.
We have been performing this dreidel choir arrangement every year since. At the concert, we perform this immediately after Carol of the Bells. We even sing this arrangement when we go caroling.
