Note-Labeling Rubric

Note-labeling is not an “all or nothing” skill. Any singer must be successful at note-labeling before being able to sight sing.

First a student must accurately be able to label the pitches with solfege. Next they need to gain speed. The speed at which they can identify the pitches will determine how quickly they can access their ear. If they have not developed their ear first, they will not be able to produce the notes correctly.

 

This Rubric has 5 tangible Levels.

This rubric can be used independently or in conjunction with the Sight-Singing Developmental Rubric; within that rubric, where this is a specific prerequisite skill.

After labeling these examples, have your singers sight sing the same examples! They will successfully sight sing these examples if they have completed Step 4 or the Sight Singing Developmental Rubric.
