Description
Rhythm Development is not an “all or nothing” skill. Any singer must be successful at rhythm labeling and performing before becoming an excellent sight singer.
First a student must accurately be able to label the rhythm above each pitch; this includes eighth note subdivisions for 3/4 and 4/4 time along with eighth note labeling in 6/8 time. Next, they need to perform the rhythms to a steady, sub-divided beat. Finally, they need to internally subdivide the beat.
This Rhythm Rubric has 5 tangible Levels.

This rubric is a positive tool to encourage singers with 5 Levels for success!
This rhythm rubric can be used independently or in conjunction with the Sight-Singing Developmental Rubric; within that rubric, where this is the final prerequisite skill.
Included with the rhythm rubric is a packet of examples courtesy of Sight Reading Factory. After labeling, have your singers sight sing the same examples! They will successfully sight sing these examples if they have completed Step 4 or the Sight Singing Developmental Rubric.
